Ashland United Methodist Church
Board of Trustees Church Council
February 28, 2010
Linda Rae Monroe, Chairperson
At the Board of Trustees meeting February 8, 2010, Linda Rae Monroe announced that the church was assigned a new insurance policy from the Oregon-Idaho Conference of the United Methodist Church Participating Member Program ~ PACT (Property and Casualty Trust). Since our premium is about $4000 more this year than last year and the insurance agent assigned to us doesn’t seem to know why, it was decided that the Trustees would look elsewhere for a more affordable plan. Linda Rae made a few phone calls and visited an insurance office in Medford. She also phoned Bill Mullette-Bauer, the Director of Stewardship and Finance for the conference. Bill concurred with our plan. We will pursue this for the next few weeks.
At the “All Church Work Party”yesterday several projects, including closet and cupboard building were accomplished. Dan Mackay hosted a tour of the Cavern to make decisions of what stored items to keep, to tossed or to send to the Rummage Sale. Evelyn Moore and her committee turned the stain glass room in the Wesley Hall Narthex into a comfortable “Prayer Room” with reading materials available and a quite place for medication when life becomes to hectic for us. All church members are encouraged to participate in the Ashland United Methodist Church work party. More All Church Work Party cleaning projects are planned for the next workday, Saturday, March 27 at 8am. Please feel included and invited. Come and choose an assignment from the list in Wesley Hall. Beth Hite and her weeding volunteers continue to need help. Please bring your tools and gloves. Thanks to all who help. Many hands make light work!
Update on Building Loans:
The estate of Bob Vestal is not yet closed and is still in the same state as last month. Bob’s attorney, Jack Davis, is continuing to work on one and possibly two life insurance policies. They are also looking for a tax refund and they continue to hold $3000 back in case more bills come in against the estate. There is less than $5000 still coming to the building fund from Bob’s estate.
Trustee Project List:
The “Light up the Choir for Easter” project is in full swing. The new lights and supplies have arrived. Electrician, lighting designer and Trustee, Mike Grubbs, will be on hand in the church sanctuary at 8:30am Saturday, March 6th to oversee work done to clear out the pews, cover the organ, organ pipes, piano, etc. so the scaffolding can be assembled. Mike estimates the new lights will take about 3 days to install, with the help of his assistant. Church services will be held in Wesley Hall, on Sunday March 7 while the work is in progress. Trustee are planning a “Celebration of the Lights” to thank Mike and the Pearsons, who donated money, for this very worthy cause.
The stain glass windows in the balcony above the Sanctuary are in need of repair. These windows are over 100 years old and in danger of falling to the concrete below. One window is being held in place by duct tape. This project would make a wonderful memorial project for members of the church family. The estimate for these repairs are $1000 per window and there are 8 windows in need of repair.
The Trustee are continuing to sort through the list of major projects around the church in need. The list is being put in order of priority and a cost estimate is being placed on them.
Locking up, turning off lights and AC/Heat continues to be an issue. Committee Chairs and members, PLEASE jiggle the doors when you go out and do not assume that the doors are going to lock themselves, sometimes they do not. The bathroom lights and fans are not being turned off as the occupant leaves.
