What exciting times. So much new along with re-opening of the Historic Sanctuary.  Learning our way from Wesley Hall to the Historic Sanctuary may seem ominous.  A joy is that the trek can be made without being in the rain or sun or via the sidewalks to enjoy Ashland’s wonderful weather.

A few guidelines are in order to remind us that we are stewards of God’s gifts.

Please do not walk on the lawn. A landscape architect designed the new layout.  It is a work of art.  The curves are meant to enhance the views from Narthex toward Wesley Hall and vice versa.  From Laurel Street the eye is drawn to the beautiful new entry.  The effect is destroyed if a path is worn across the lawn.  To me walking on this area is equivalent to graffiti on public art.  The benches are foundation stones from our original building.  Enjoy sitting, meditating, and the beauty of the space.

The doors at each end of the ramp in the education wing are fire doors.  Those at the entry to Wesley Hall are also fire doors.  They are to remain closed when not in use.  Please do not prop these doors open.  These doors are locked when the rooms are not in use.  This is designed so that non-church groups using our Historic Sanctuary or Wesley Hall will not have access to other parts of the building.  Having these doors locked also prevents unauthorized people from having access to the Montessori children.

Please clean up after meetings.  Our custodian’s workload has increased but his authorized time remains 25 hours/week.  We are monitoring how much more time may be required to keep our church pristine but for the time being, anything you can do is saving us money.  For example, put tables and chairs away after a meeting.

The tile in our new Narthex is beautiful but fragile.  Please do not roll tables across this floor.  The metal rings may scratch the tile.  Spills may be cleaned with mop in custodian closet between restrooms.

Food and drink (other than water) ought not be in the Historic Sanctuary.

Blessings and Shalom,

Graham
